Former Everest Re executive John Doucette has again dropped plans to launch a Bermuda-based (re)insurance start-up after brutal fundraising conditions frustrated his efforts to secure backing, this publication understands.

Doucette had been seeking to raise in excess of $1bn of equity for a Bermuda business writing a blended book of insurance and reinsurance.
